Community Support Propels Sean Costello’s Here After Into Second Printing
Sudbury fans love Sean Costello latest novel Here After! Available only since October 1st, and only officially launched on October 17th, Here After has been selling so well that publisher Laurence Steven of Your Scrivener Press has already ordered a second printing. Copies are dwindling on bookstore shelves, but Steven expects the new batch to arrive in under two weeks, before the shelves are empty. “For a publisher,” he says, “this is what is called a good problem to have.”
The community has been waiting five years for a Costello novel, and Here After hasn’t disappointed its readers. To date the Chapters website has recorded 29 five star ratings and 15 reader reviews, sporting headlines such as “Costello's best yet, a great book,” “Great, Great, Great!!!,” “Couldn’t Put it Down,” and “Three Thumbs Up!”
The media have been very supportive of Costello’s work over the years, and with Here After there has been no exception. A variety of print and radio media have got the word out about the latest offering from a writer who helps us see ourselves, in our own community.
The vendors have also got on board. Here After is available across the northeast from North Bay to Sault Ste Marie to Timmins in Chapters, Coles, Shoppers Drug Marts, Your Independent Grocers, and Wal-Marts.
Laurence Steven, as well as being Sean Costello’s publisher, is a Laurentian University English Professor where he teaches a course on Northern Ontario Literature. He sees the current Here After phenomenon as a clear indicator that the Sudbury and northeastern Ontario literary community is coming of age. “We have very good writers in this region,” he says. “As the community rallies round them, we’ll see them start to have readership across the country too, making us proud. Just watch it happen!”
Sean Costello will be signing Here After at Sudbury Chapters on November 1st from 11:00am to 4:00pm, and at Coles in the New Sudbury Centre on November 8th, from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
